In October I decided to start doing a little more of things I enjoy. Crafting, decorating and makeup are pretty high on that list but as a child I’ve always loved to read.
After college I haven’t read much of anything beyond facebook and instagram, and during college reading anything just for “leisure” wasn’t an option! lol.
Long, boring story short. I decided to start a book club with a group of my friends.
How it works:
- We pick a book. (Duh)
- We have a month to finish it.
- We meet at the beginning of the following month to discuss. (Really just to eat delicious Pinterest recipes and drink wine, but you get the point)
Our very first book was The Heart of a Woman by Maya Angelou.
Our first meeting in November was an absolute success. With the exception of a few no shows we had an amazing time!
The featured wine was Strawberry Shortcake Sangria. And I made a Brownie Batter dip that was to die for! I also handmade bookmarks for the ladies.
Our December book was I almost forgot about you by Terry McMillan.
We decided to go the fiction route this time around to make for a bit more fun in our discussion. Our featured wine was a White Peach Sangria and the highlight of my night were the Strawberry Brownie Skewers.
I crocheted monogram bookmarks for the group (I’m pretty amazing, I know).
For January we randomly picked Nappily Ever After by Trisha Thomas.
I am excited to start this book, as I have also just embarked on a natural hair journey following a brave big chop this August. (I’ll hold off on those pics for now lol)
If you would like to join us for this months book club I’ll be more than glad to host a discussion by blog next month! Let me know in the comments.
If it doesn’t challenge you, it won’t change you.
